Welcome to Kiermeet 2010 in California - our 7th international family reunion for the Kjaerulf family. We are back to where Kiermeet all started. In 1986 the first international family reunion was held in Solvang, California. Cap Kierulff called the meeting to present his update of the family tree, the book Twentieth Century Kjaerulfs, and 154 Kjaerulfs from many countries met to celebrate his great work and meet with other family members. Since then, Kiermeet has not only been held in California but also in Denmark, the Virgin Islands, Norway, Iceland, and the Philippines! Now we are back in California following our ancestors’ footsteps on planet Earth to a place where they settled in the past.
We all have our own reasons for participating in Kiermeet family reunions. But common to us all is the feeling of sharing family bonds with other family members. We are all in the same family originating from Anders Wulff settling in the Danish town Vadum around 1400. We live different lives in our different countries sharing different cultural values and speak different languages but still we are out of the same family even if our bonds were divided a hundred or more years ago. This fascinating thought appeals to and amazes us all. This is also what makes it interesting: to investigate other ways of thinking and living and discuss issues based on different values. Most importantly, we accept that we are individuals but family despite our different values. Visiting California has another purpose: meeting local American Kierulf family members in their own beautiful country see how they live and work, experience nature. We will meet on tours, dine together, talk together and make new, long-lasting friendships.
This is what Kiermeet is all about.
The Kiermeet Committees in California and Denmark have put together a Kiermeet trip 17 – 25 July 2010 where we will be exploring lovely California from entertaining Los Angeles, the City of Angels, drive along the scenic Pacific coast on Highway 1 to the fascinating San Francisco. Our traditional family dinner will, of course, be held in the small town Solvang, where Danes originally settled way back.
This time we have worked with Albatros Travel in Denmark to arrange the tour and accommodate easy booking and payment for our Kiermeet 2010 event in California.
